RENAL SOLUTIONS RECEIVES NEW PATENT FOR ZIRCONIUM COMPOUNDS IN NEW SORBENT CARTRIDGES

Warrendale, PA, November 12, 2003 – Renal Solutions, Inc., the leading provider of sorbent-based hemodialysis products and services, announces having received Patent No. US 6,627,164 B1, Sodium Zirconium Carbonate and Zirconium Basic Carbonate and Methods of Making the Same.  These patented compounds and methods of production are being utilized in the manufacturing of the new SORB and HISORB sorbent regenerative hemodialysis cartridges recently cleared by FDA.  These sorbent cartridges are enhanced versions of the current SORB and HISORB Cartridges and allow for higher dialysate flow rates and improved electrolyte dynamics.  The Sorbent Cartridge is a key component of sorbent hemodialysis systems. The cartridges regenerate dialysate so that only 6 liters of potable tap water are necessary for an entire hemodialysis treatment.

“We are very pleased to have received this patent,” said Peter M. DeComo, Chairman and CEO of Renal Solutions.  “This patent reaffirms the significance of our progress and continued development of sorbent regenerative dialysis technology and validates our corporate implementation plan.”
